I am a freelance consultant carrying out a wide range of Intelligent Transport Systems and Traffic Signal related consultancy services for clients, including highway authorities, consultancies and commercial entities.
Technical Advisory
Technical executive working with companies (typically at C-Suite level) in the UK and abroad, to provide advice and guidance for product localisation and segment appropriateness, industry engagement, strategic introductions and technical business development support.
Consultancy Services
I provide a broad range of consultancy and advisory services relating to ITS and Traffic Signal infrastructure for both Clients and Suppliers.
Project Management
My role is to identify and then deliver the 'vision' for a project, often in the face of adversity, whilst maintaining a strong team culture (irrespective of organisation and geographic spread) by using my collegiate management style.
Design
I have an extensive specialist knowledge of traffic systems which is used to devise and deliver practical and economic solutions with innovative designs to improve capability, safety and efficiency.
Audits
As a freelance consultant, I can undertake independent design audits for clients or as an extra resource for consultancies undertaking design work.
Inspections
I undertake a variety of different inspections relating to equipment supply, construction compliance to project designs and for existing/legacy installations.
Training
I undertake a range of technical training packages which can be undertaken in-person or online.

I am a recognised Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) industry figure with over 30 years in-depth experience, resulting in an extensive specialist knowledge of traffic systems. This is used to devise and deliver practical and economical solutions with innovative designs to improve capability, safety and efficiency. In addition, as a technology specialist, has particular experience in preliminary equipment assessments, due diligence reports, field trials and integration into traffic systems. With a detailed knowledge of standards and statutory requirements, along with supporting prerequisites such as technical specifications and procedures.
Extensive experience of specialist technologies and equipment, along with ancillary issues, such as passive safety and active transport modes, and the implications these pose on the design and management of traffic system installations. Widespread experience of managing traffic systems infrastructure, with a great deal of expertise of liaison at all levels with a diverse range of clients, stakeholders and suppliers. Usually working within collaborative project delivery teams which are typically both geographically and organisationally spread, along with oversight and engagement with contractors and direct management of staff. Highly experienced in feasibility assessments and preliminary design through detailed geometric and system design, equipment specification, contract documentation, construction, installation, commissioning and integration into systems. In-depth experience of Factory, Site Acceptance and Commissioning tests for traffic systems equipment. A technical/standards resource for traffic systems and related technologies.
Adaptable approach to projects, as well as the UK, work and assignments have included diverse locations across Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Asia, South America and Oceania. This has resulted in experience of projects being undertaken to diverse international standards for a wide range of client organisations, including regional and national governments, investment institutions and commercial entities.
The author of the well-respected books "Traffic Control: A traffic systems companion to the DfT Traffic Sign Manual - Chapter 6" and "Traffic Signals: An introduction to signalised junctions and crossing facilities in the UK". I have also produced numerous articles both for publications and as papers written/presented at conferences.

In addition, I also wrote the national guidance document "Passive Safety Electrical Guide" on behalf of the Institute of Highway Engineers along with a range of national and local standards, including a number of MCH and TR series process and equipment specification documents for National Highways.
